Why It Matters
Stone Shops Kill Undersized, Under-Filtered Compressors
Most stone shops we walk into are running a compressor two sizes too small, with no real dryer, drains that never work, and slurry in the intake. The result is a compressor that fails every few years, tools that wear out early, and pressure drops that slow down the CNC. Sized right and protected right, a rotary screw in a stone shop should run for a decade with clean, dry air at every drop.

+How much CFM does a granite shop really need?
It depends on how many CNC bridge saws, waterjets, polishers, and hand tools run at once. A single-saw shop may only need 40 to 60 CFM, but a full fab shop with a CNC saw, waterjet, edge polisher, and hand air often needs 150 CFM or more of clean, dry air. We size to measured demand, not a nameplate guess.
+Why do stone-shop compressors fail so fast?
Slurry, water, and stone dust get pulled into the intake, coolers foul, and drains stay full because condensate carries fines. Without moisture control and proper intake filtration, airends and motors do not last. The fix is filtration, dryer, and drain design - not just replacing the compressor every few years.
+Do I need a rotary screw or a reciprocating compressor?
For any fab shop running multiple tools or a CNC saw, a rotary screw is almost always the right answer - continuous duty, more efficient, longer life. Reciprocating units belong in small shops with intermittent hand-tool use only.
+What about moisture in the air lines?
Water in the air line pits pneumatic valves, ruins hand tools, and turns waterjet controls into a maintenance line item. A properly sized refrigerated dryer, coalescing filtration, wet and dry receivers, and zero-loss drains eliminate it - we spec and install the full train, not just the compressor.
+Can you install a compressor room outside the fab shop?
Yes - and for stone shops we usually recommend it. Keeping the compressor in a clean, ventilated room away from slurry and dust dramatically extends life and cuts service costs. We handle piping runs and heat rejection.
+Do you service compressors for sandblasting?
Yes. Sandblasting is a heavy continuous-duty load - typically a larger rotary screw with big storage and proper filtration. We size the compressor for actual blast pot CFM at pressure, not the abrasive supplier's minimum.
